Il fut le petit-fils de Spiridon Strogan.
Il fut le plus riche marchand de la république de Novgorod (fin de la république en 1478).
1439, il versa une rançon de 200 000 roubles destinée au rachat du grand-prince de Moscou Vassilievitch l'Aveugle retenu prisonnier de la Horde d'Or.
1483, il s'installa avec sa famille près de la rivière Vychegda, mais il prit bientôt des vœux monastiques sous le nom de Theodosios.
